“I’m Eli, I’m a ship fitter at Bath Iron Works and I’ve been here for a little over a year. Being a ship fitter is pretty neat. I get to use my brain and brute force to manipulate metal however I want. A lot of it is improvisation. I have to make things up on the fly to get the results that I want. Today I’m working in the fan room. It’s a pretty tight spot. I’m building fan foundations for the actual fans to sit on that cool and filter the ship’s air. A good day is a day that I get my work order, I sit down, I read it, I figure out what the blueprints are, I understand it completely, and I can go and make it work.”
